Project Overview

The NYC subway system carries over 5 million riders daily, making it one of the largest captive audiences in the world. Instagram partnered with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to transform the daily commute into an opportunity for creative discovery and community connection.

We partnered with beloved New York creators to give them the ultimate canvas — the subway itself — to celebrate their creativity. Featured creators include @subwaycreatures, @whatisnewyork and @subwayhands, showcasing the most unique-yet-relatable moments from the subway.

As the final celebration of this iconic piece of NYC history, we released the last ever branded Metrocard. We partnered with three iconic New York City creators @newyorknico, @subwaytakes and @overheardnewyork to create limited edition cards that celebrate the spirit of creativity that lives in the underground of the NYC subway.
